Event Team Sammy Chung: Event Operations Manager Sammy Chung, having been an ex-Royal Marines Warrant Officer of some 23 years and 16 years within the Physical Training Branch, is no stranger to endurance events having been a participant, organiser and coach for many athletes within the Royal Marines. He has competed in many Marathons and double coastal Marathons from Exmouth to Poole. He was the Coach for the Royal Marines Marathon Canoe Team from 1989 to 1994, where his remit was to train the team to compete in the Classic Canoe Marathon Race, The Devizes to Westminster, a non-stop paddle of 125 miles. He has competed in the event in both single and double Kayaks. In his first year as coach he brought the Royal Marines Team to victory over the Army Team who had dominated the event for years, with some very credible individual times placing them well up the field in the overall rankings. The success was continued throughout his five years in post and the team continued with their success from then on with the same training ethos set up by Sammy Chung. Organisationally, as a Physical Training Instructor in the Royal Marines one of his roles was to organise all the sporting events on the calander not only in the UK but in the various countries they were deployed to. Throughout his career he has coordinated many logistical facets both operationally and in the UK. Sammy prides himself on attention to detail and Military precision in all that he does. STEVE HOCKINGS - THOMPSON: Steve is a 41-year-old Triathlete from Exmouth; who has been competing in triathlons since 1995, when he was part of the Royal Marines Triathlon team. He represented Great Britain in the Long Course Worlds in Nice; competed in 4 Ironman events, in Lanzarote, Sherbourne and 2 longest day events in the Midlands, with a best time being 9hrs 51 mins. In 2006 he competed in the first Ironman 70.3 Worlds in Clearwater, U.S.A. Steve’s Triathlon career has found him racing in every distance event. In 2007 he was part of the Tri UK Team, and won various races, becoming the southwest champion. Between races he is also the deputy coxswain of the Exmouth Lifeboat. Steve brings the experience from the view point of what a competitor wants from a high caliberTriathlon to the team and is still comnpeteing. Andy Relf: Has been the preferred supplier to the Governing Bodies for many years. He is the author of the Home Office Guidance for the Safety of Sporting Events 2006 and has been a member of the working group for twenty years working with the Home Office, Health and Safety Executive, Dept of Culture, Media and Sport, UK Sport, ACPO, Local Government Association and the Department of Transport. He is at the forefront of national developments in sport and event legislation and he has for many years performed the demanding role of UK. advisor to athletic and cycle based competitive sport. Andy has the traffic knowledge and combined with the practical experience of being involved in every major triathlon in the UK and the major cycle races, the Tour de France, Tour of Britain he is an asset to the safety of any event.
